“Master of All Masters” / Peeling Potatoes
Download the Artwork for this story here.
This is a traditional folktale about a servant girl who uses her quick wits to save her foolish master (and his cat). I’ve paired it with a painting by Frank Holl (1845-188) that shows what life was like for hardworking people at the time this story was collected.

Folktales and Fairy Tales
The story “Master of All Masters” was written down by Mr. Joseph Jacobs in the year 1890. Joseph Jacobs was born in Australia but traveled to England to learn stories that had been passed down from generation to generation for many years.
